Dubai Flood 2023 Today

Record-Breaking Rainfall Wreaks Havoc in Dubai

Over 142 mm of Rain Falls in a Day, Surpassing Average Yearly Total

Flights Suspended at Dubai International Airport, Schools Closed

Unprecedented rainfall has battered Dubai and the surrounding United Arab Emirates (UAE), causing widespread flooding and disruptions. By the end of Tuesday, the city had received over 142 millimeters (559 inches) of rain, exceeding the average annual rainfall of 947 millimeters (373 inches) at Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest for international travel.

The relentless downpour has led to school closures and the flooding of major roads, including the tarmac at Dubai International Airport. Operations were temporarily suspended for 25 minutes on Tuesday, and disruptions continued into Wednesday as the airport struggled to manage the influx of water.

The heavy rains have also proven deadly. A 70-year-old man tragically lost his life after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Ras Al-Khaimah.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a red alert for the UAE, warning of more heavy rainfall and possible thunderstorms. Residents are advised to take precautions, including avoiding flooded areas and adhering to official safety instructions.
