Ante Rebic inspires Frankfurt to victory with two goals
BERLIN, GERMANY - May 19, 2018 - In a thrilling 2018 DFB-Pokal final, Eintracht Frankfurt overcame Bayern Munich to claim the trophy at the Olympiastadion.
Frankfurt, led by coach Niko Kovac, had stunned the Bundesliga giants to reach the final. And on this historic day, Ante Rebic emerged as the match-winner with two decisive goals.
The Croatian forward broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a clinical strike. Bayern Munich fought back and leveled the score through Kingsley Coman, but Rebic struck again just six minutes later to hand Frankfurt a memorable triumph.
It was a fairy-tale ending for Frankfurt, who had not won a major trophy since 1988. The victory also marked the first time that a club outside the Bundesliga's top four had lifted the DFB-Pokal since 2015.
