Historic Connection: North and South Korea Reunite Through Road Construction

The Korean Peninsula Witness to a New Era

Efforts Bridge the Divide After 7 Decades of Separation

In a groundbreaking development, North and South Korea have forged a physical connection with the completion of a three-kilometer road along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on November 22, 2018. This 19-mile stretch of roadway marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between the two nations, divided for over seven decades.

The DMZ, a heavily fortified buffer zone between North and South Korea, has served as a stark symbol of the Korean War's legacy. However, this latest initiative signals a shift towards cooperation and reconciliation. The road, located approximately 90 kilometers northeast of Seoul, is the latest in a series of inter-Korean projects aimed at improving relations.
