Germany Thrash 10-Man Scotland in Euro 2024 Opener

Germany Begin Tournament with Thumping Win

Germany kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign in style, thrashing 10-man Scotland 5-1 in Munich on Friday. Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for the hosts with a low shot from the top of the penalty area after just 12 minutes. Scotland were reduced to 10 men on the half-hour mark when Kieran Tierney was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Marco Reus.

Germany Take Control

Germany took full advantage of Scotland's numerical disadvantage, with Timo Werner doubling their lead before the break. The hosts continued to dominate after the interval, with Kai Havertz making it 3-0 on the hour mark. Scotland pulled one back through substitute Che Adams, but goals from Jamal Musiala and Thomas Müller sealed a comfortable victory for Germany.

The result leaves Scotland facing an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages, while Germany have made a strong start to their quest for a record-breaking fourth European Championship title.
