Biden to Visit Belfast for Good Friday Agreement Anniversary

25th Anniversary of Landmark Peace Deal

US President Joe Biden will visit Belfast, Northern Ireland this week to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, a landmark peace deal that brought an end to decades of violent conflict in the region.

The Good Friday Agreement, also known as the Belfast Agreement, was signed on April 10, 1998, after intense negotiations between the UK government, the Irish government, and Northern Irish political parties. The agreement led to a ceasefire in the conflict and established a power-sharing government in Northern Ireland.

Biden's visit will coincide with a series of events to commemorate the anniversary of the agreement. The President is expected to meet with political leaders and community representatives, and to speak about the importance of peace and reconciliation.

The Good Friday Agreement has been hailed as a major success, but it has also faced challenges in recent years. In 2017, the power-sharing government collapsed, and there have been concerns about the impact of Brexit on the peace process.

Biden's visit is expected to send a strong message of support for the Good Friday Agreement and for the people of Northern Ireland.
