Argentina name squad for 2024 Olympics

Alvarez and Barco lead the line for Scaloni's side

Argentina will be looking to win a third gold medal in the men's football at the Olympics

Argentina have named their 18-player men's football squad for the 2024 Olympics alongside four replacement players. Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is included in the squad, as is LAFC forward Ezequiel Barco.

Argentina have a rich pedigree on the Olympic stage. They picked up their first medal in their debut campaign in 1928, albeit a defeat against neighbors and familiar foes Uruguay in the final. They would go on to win the gold medal in 2004 and 2008.

The Men's Olympic Football Tournament kicks off Wednesday, July 24 with eight intriguing contests. Host nation France will begin their campaign by facing the United States in the tournament opener.

Argentina has been drawn in Group B with Morocco, Iraq, and Ukraine. They will open their campaign against Morocco on July 25.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The semifinals will be played on August 12, with the bronze medal match taking place on August 14 and the gold medal match on August 16.

Argentina will be looking to add to their impressive Olympic medal haul in 2024. With a strong squad and a favorable draw, they will be one of the favorites to reach the podium.
