Medvedev Recovers from Slow Start, Defeats Sonego in Dubai

Medvedev, ranked seventh in the world, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sonego, who upset No. 8 seed Borna Coric in the first round.

Medvedev, the reigning US Open champion, dropped his serve in the opening game of the match, but quickly recovered and broke back in the third game. He then held serve for the remainder of the set, winning 6-4.

In the second set, Medvedev broke Sonego's serve in the fifth game and held on to win 6-3. Medvedev fired 12 aces and won 75% of his first-serve points in the match.

Medvedev will next face either Hubert Hurkacz or Andy Murray in the quarterfinals. Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, upset No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic in the first round.
