International Origins and Historical Significance

Originally constructed by Henschel for export, the BB 262 played a significant role in the Frankfurt-Königsteiner Eisenbahn (FKE). Before its acquisition by BB, the locomotive operated on the Wutachtalbahn. Its 91,000 views on YouTube five years ago attest to its popularity and historical value.

The Sauschwänzlebahn: A Scenic Railway Experience

The Sauschwänzlebahn, where the BB 262 currently operates, is a world-renowned scenic railway in southern Germany. In October 2015, the locomotive was officially commissioned for service on this picturesque line, offering passengers an unforgettable steam-powered journey through breathtaking landscapes.

Operating the BB 262 requires approximately 3 tons of coal for driving and maintaining a reserve fire, with current market prices placing the cost around 3,000 euros per ton.
